Twice in my life I’ve lived in places that had great bathtubs. Unfortunately neither of those places is where I now live! My bathtub is your standard, average shower/tub insert of no special size; a sore subject of constant lamentation.
When I build my shop/warehouse, I may just have a hot tub installed for testing purposes….
All this chatter is due to the fact that Imade myself a wonderful sugar scrub yesterday and languished lazily in the tub for a while. Sugar scrubs are very easy to make – there are a number of different kinds. Here’s a recipe for one that you should be able to make at home without having to go out and buy special ingredients.
2 cups white or brown sugar – whichever is your preference. Olive, vegetable, almond, coconut or some other skin loving and conditioning oil, liquid soap if you want a lathering scrub, essential oil if you want a nice essence.
Put the sugar in a small plastic contianer and add one half teaspoon of liquid soap (if desired)and stir. Add the oil by the half teaspoon to the sugar mixture mixing after each addition. It is very easy to put too much liquid in the sugar and end up with a gloppy mess. The consistency you’re looking for is more dry than wet. If you put too much oil/soap/essential oil the sugar will dissolve and you won’t get that nice exfoliating scrubby action in the tub. Lavender essential oil is wonderful, however there are many other essences that are equally as enjoyable. You only need a few drops of essence to have a wonderful smelling scrub.
I like to get in the tub with just a few inches of water so that I can scrub my feet and legs first and then work my way up, even GENTLY “scrubbing” my face. Yesterday, because I used coconut oil in my scrub, I even washed my hair with it!!! My hair was softer than ever and the silver strands were very shiny!
This is also a great couples activity – kind of reminds me of the monkeys at the zoo grooming one another! Seriously, it’s a great way to spoil your partner with a new activity.
