Bees and things

I spent the day working on getting all my ducks in a row so that I can make this Whole Foods partnership a reality.

This morning I was eating my yogurt, Mertie’s Oven granola (best in the world) blueberries, cranberries and walnuts – (what a tree-huggin’ granola head, right) on the back porch stoop.  It was sunny, beautiful and warmer than in the house.

A bee thought to come join me in my bowl, uninvited mind you.  As he/she laboriously climbed the mountains of white yogurt, her legs, wings and rear end became covered in yogurt.  As an aside, this did not suprise me as everytime Maria makes granola, a bee or two shows up in the kitchen, probably hoping to reclaim some stolen honey.

Anyway, she climbed to the edge of the bowl and then proceeded to walk the circumference of the bowl trying to rid her behind of the accumulated yogurt!  I think she circled three times.  Then she “fuzzed” her wings for a while and stretched her legs several times in sequence.  As she flew away she was still weighted down and landed, not-so-gracefully on the deck.  At this point I lost track of her.  I knew this would be the highlight of my day…

Moral of the story, be careful of going where you’re uninvited….

More seriously, I often think of the difficulties blind people face, I’m not sure why this is always with me.  It started many years ago as a child.  If I were blind I could very well have eaten this little bee.  Of course, with a heightened sense of hearing, I may have heard her and known she was there.  And while I’m at it – I’m thinking right now that someone who is blind cannot read this post – although there is likely some wonderful technology out there of which  I’m unaware.

Thanks for listening.
